High Purity Ore From The Chesapeake Bay
Quartz is one of the most common and well-known minerals on the planet. It is best known as the principal constituent of glass but offers many other uses ranging from toothpaste to solar panels.
This versatile colorless mineral is durable, chemically inert, and non-conductive.
Our quartz deposit, located at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay in Port Deposit, MD, provides a source of high-purity silica with natural SiO2 concentrations typically greater than 99.9%. Higher purity grades can be met through simple physical separation techniques.
The iron content of end products is typically 50-70 ppm Fe2O3, with only minor amounts of other typical glass sand oxides. In addition to the low iron content, the gravel crushing produces angular sand particles, increasing surface area and resulting in better melting characteristics.
